My Friends,
On this Christmas Holiday, I along with the Members of the Executive Committees and Elected Officials of the Suffolk County & Southold Town Republican Committees wish you, your family, and friends a very Merry Christmas.
May the spirit of Christmas bless your home. May all those you hold dear, always be near and warm to your heart. And may your days always be bright with cheer.
Please keep in our prayers the brave men and women of the armed forces – who are away from their own families – so that our freedom is assured and we are safe at home. And, please, offer a very special prayer to those men and women of our military who have been wounded or have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be free.
In past years, I have shared words from great Presidents and leaders who captured the meanings of our holidays. On this Christmas Holiday, I share the words of Charles Schultz on the true essence of Christmas delivered through his insightful Peanuts character, Linus, in ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’:
“…And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them!
"And they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.'
"And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and goodwill toward men.' "
